It made it!!! After 11-ish years, this car is finally in my possession! Also, my garage smells like moth balls and stale gas now. Goal: make it road worthy and cruise. The patina thing is getting totally played out, but I just ain’t care.

There is more metal in that thing than 14 Civics. Cadillac President something something?

Studebaker President Classic. “Classic” denotes the long wheelbase top of the line model.

Front badge deceptively Cadillac-ish. And I’ve been to the Studebaker museum in South Bend. Pretty sure they have one of these in bristol condition.

Most likely! I’ve never been to South Bend. It’s on my bucket list since I’ve been a Studebaker fan my whole life.

Congrats! Get her running and drivable. Real patina isn’t played out.

The faux shit jumped the shark long ago.

True. IT guy at work drives a neat little ‘68 VW fastback with a ratty paint job. I was in his office the other day and saw a pic of what looked like his car with a really nice paint job hanging on the wall. I asked if he got his car painted... he said “no, that was taken before I sanded half the paint off.” Cool car, cool guy, but why ruin a nice paint job to make a car look worse?

It’s a flavor of the day thing.

I won’t do it. I refuse to do it. (Almost went on a rant about Paint and Body here)

Natural “Patina” rocks. Hit it with Linseed erl and you’re golden.

Linseed oil, eh? Does it work as a preservative?

When I was a kid, a guy up the street had Studebakers ... he hung on until the bitter end, when it was difficult to get parts long after the company died. Then, of course, an AMC Hornet and a Pacer appeared in his driveway. I suppose that’s where you go if you’re a Studie addict. Or to a K car.

Patina isn’t played out, over-restoration is. And who wants to pay $10k for a good paint job when you can buy another car with that money? Not me! That thing is super cool, maybe get some clear coat on those rust spots and then drive it forever!

I didn’t know you were a Studebaker fan. Here’s two early models I found earlier this summer.

Nice piece of old school American iron! Right in Studebakers twilight as well.

Especially since it’s a full-size 4-door Studebaker... rare? Yes. Valuable? Not so much. Sinking money into these is like sinking money into a malaise era car. It’s a labor of love, and you’ll never see that money again!

True. This body style was actually just a re-skin of the old Loewy coupe. They were in financial trouble, but needed a “contemporary” car to remain competitive. It didn’t work. People saw through the cost cutting, and sales steadily fell through ‘56, ‘57 and ‘58. The ‘58 cars had some seriously questionable styling!

The square body Presidents have been a favorite of mine since I was old enough to walk.

140. I feel like it should get bonus points for dead manufacturer, air cooled automatic trans and the Cyclops Eye speedometer.
